Sr. Alphonsina Mary (aka Sr. Skho, aka Sr. Mavis) celebrated her 60th jubilee of profession on October 23 at St. Andrew at Francis Place in Eureka, where she is residing.
Fr. Vic Karls presided at Mass, and then Sister renewed her vows in the chapel in the presence of her Liguori Community and other residents of the facility.
Fr. Vic spoke a bit about her vocation. She had wanted to be a Sister from the time she was a teenager. It was her father, himself a convert, who encouraged her and supported her in the desire of her heart to become a Bride of Christ.
She entered a Dominican Community of Sisters in South Africa. For many years, she served the Lord with kindness and compassion.
Although she had many positions and assignments, her special love was to work in the garden, feeling the soil of God's creation under her feet. These became times of prayer and closeness with the Lord. Through the years there continued to be a deepening call of prayer in her heart.
She met the Redemptoristine Nuns and knew this was the answer to her call to a life of deeper prayer. She joined them and is now part of the Liguori Community.
Sister’s kindness and compassion, along with her deep sense of peace and joy, continue to bring graces to all of those she interacts with and holds in prayer. She is thankful to everyone at St. Andrew’s and holds each of them and their loved ones in prayer.
We ask God to bless you, Sister, with all His special graces as you celebrate your 60th jubilee of profession.
After Mass, the Liguori Community enjoyed a reception for Sr. Skho. Many of her friends from South Africa had sent congratulatory emails, and our Lay Associates in the area sent messages or visited. It was also a time for her to bid farewell to Sr. Supawadee and Sr. Maria Celeste, who will be returning to Thailand.
