by Fr. Kevin Zubel, C.Ss.R. Provincial Superior, Denver Province
I traveled to Ireland to participate in meetings of the General Finance Secretariat and the General Internal Audit working group in Dundalk from November 14-21.
I spent the first four days in Dublin, and so was blessed with the opportunity to join the Redemptoristine Nuns of Dublin as they celebrated the First Profession of Vows of Sr. Nilima Mayla, O.Ss.R.
In a joyful moment for the whole Redemptorist family, Sr. Gabrielle Fox, Prioress, received Sr. Nilima’s vows in a liturgy presided by Fr. Brendan O’Rourke, Provincial of the Dublin Province, with the homily preached by Fr. Ivel Mendanha, General Consultor.
Originally from India, Sr. Nilima concluded the Mass with a moving tribute in which she laid traditional garlands around the image of Our Mother of Perpetual Help. In turn, her parents lovingly placed a garland on their newly-professed daughter.
An added blessing to an already wonderful event was a chance to visit with the three Sisters originally from the St. Alphonsus Convent in Liguori. I am happy to report that Sr. Ann Marie and Sr. Mary Louisa are feeling at home in the new community, and they stay up-to-date on the life of the Denver Province and keep us in their prayers.
The American cohort in Dublin also includes Sr. Dierdra, who first explored life as a Redemptoristine in Liguori before continuing her journey in Dublin and professing her first vows early this year. The celebration had the feeling of a family reunion, and I was inspired by the vibrancy and cheerfulness of the international community of the Redemptoristines in Dublin. I’m incredibly grateful that the timing all worked out to allow for this wonderful visit.
