Father Eugene Grohe, C.Ss.R., a member of the Saint Alphonsu Villa community, New Smyrna Beach, Florida, died peacefully on November 18, 2023, aged ninety-nine and two months.
Born August 27, 1924, in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of Philip and Mary M. (Friedmann). He attended St. Mary’s College Minor Seminary in North East, Pennsylvania, between 1938 and 1945. He professed temporary vows on August 2, 1945, at St. Mary’s College in Ilchester, Maryland and final vows on September 2, 1948, at Mt. St. Alphonsus Seminary, Esopus, New York, where he was also ordained to the priesthood, June 18, 1950.
Funeral Services for Father Gene Grohe took place on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, in Saint Mary’s Church in Kingston. A viewing and visitation took place in the Church. Interment followed immediately in the Cemetery at Mount Saint Alphonsus in Esopus. ++
Father Andrew W. Carr, C.Ss.R. Father Andrew W. Carr, C.Ss.R., of the St. John Neumann Community, Timonium, Maryland, died on December 7, 2023, aged 94 and three months. He was born on August 21, 1929, in Manhattan, the son of Andrew and Hannah (O’Brien). He was also the brother of Father William E. Carr, C.Ss.R., who died in 1989.
Baptized (November 22, 1929) and confirmed (April 30, 1941) at the Redemptorist parish of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 61st Street in New York City. He professed his vows as a Redemptorist on August 2, 1950, and was ordained to the priesthood on June 19, 1955.
His bilingual Mass of Christian Burial was held at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Baltimore on Monday, December 11. He was buried on Friday, December 15 at Mt. Saint Alphonsus Cemetery near his late brother, Fr. William. May he rest in peace! ++
