116th Novena to Good Saint Anne

August 14, 2023No one really knows for sure when the Redemptorists began preaching the annual novena at St. Anne of the Sunset in San Francisco.
The story told is that the second pastor of the parish, Fr. William O’Mahoney, replaced the Jesuits who were initially commissioned to preach the novena with the Redemptorists, who had a reputation for exceptional preaching. We have continued ever since.
Fr. Patrick Keyes and Fr. Ted Lawson preached the novena again this year, joined by Fr. Philip Dabney of the Baltimore Province and Frater Julio Olguin of the Province of Mexico.
The theme this year, “Enlarge the Space of Your Tent,” was taken from the Synod scheduled in Rome during October that obviously fits well with the Redemptorist charism. We encouraged the faithful to envision themselves as evangelizers in an inclusive Church.
