More than 800 people gathered at Holy Ghost Parish in Houston to bid farewell to the Redemptorists on June 4. Several former pastors and staff members – Fr. Scott Katzenberger, Fr. Greg May, Fr. Eugene Batungbacal and Fr. Gan Nguyen – participated in the farewell celebration.
The parish community also welcomed Provincial Superior Kevin Zubel, who presided at a bilingual Mass featuring a first for the community: a unified choir – all 12 of them, for a total of 80 singers, 3 keyboards and 25 guitars.
“The church was full to capacity for a truly magnificent Mass, which set the tone for a very joyous and uplifting farewell reception,” explained Fr. Bill Bueche, pastor. “We gathered in the gym for various tributes and testimonials about our Redemptorist history, and enjoyed several dance performances and a Mariachi band.
"The school principal and teachers even surprised us with their own rendition of “Halleluiah.” It was a very loving celebration, a final gift from the parish community to the Redemptorists in appreciation of 75 years of service.”
