"I first learned of the death of Pope Benedict in the early hours of the final day of 2022. Around 5:30 in the morning, a text arrived – not from some Vatican department or Italian journalist, but from a fellow disciple, a writer who belongs to the Serbian Orthodox Church.
And he wrote, 'At the end, Jesus embraces us all equally – whether pope or pauper.' I believe Pope Benedict would be very pleased by the way his death was described: as the fulfillment of a 'hope that does not disappoint.' A hope that illumined his shepherding of the Church. A hope that is renewed in us each day."
