Redemptorist Memorial, July 12, 1762: St. Alphonsus Enters Saint Agatha of the Goths

July 12, 2022On this day, Saint Alphonsus entered into Saint Agatha as their new bishop. The people greeted Alphonsus with an ovation, enriched with fireworks.
Arriving at the cathedral, Saint Alphonsus prayed for a long time, then he spoke to the crowd. His words moved and enchanted the audience for an hour.
He explained that he didn't come to Saint Agatha to live a comfortable life, but to stimulate the people with his word and by his example of his caring of the peoples need for salvation.
The following Sunday, Alphonsus began preaching a big mission at the cathedral. All the people were amazed and said “This time, we have a saint for a bishop!"
Saint Alphonsus was 66 years old.
