After two years of absence caused by the on-and-off quarantine periods, Santa Claus ventured to Liguori to visit the St. Clement community this year. But before coming to town, Santa required that all the CDC protocols have been met: all community members and staff have received at least two doses of vaccine; and that all will be ‘boosted’ before Christmas time. The children are not invited to the party for their own safety.
Nevertheless, the party was a completely joyful time, much like our normal Christmas celebrations of the past. Food was ordered in to give the kitchen staff the time to enjoy the festive time with confreres.
Fr. Gan Nguyen, local superior, teamed up with Br. Dan Korn as Santa Claus to give gifts that brought big smiles to everyone. The old jokes were repeated, and memories about the good old days before the COVID-19 pandemic were retold with love. We all counted our blessings for the last few years living with the fear of the pandemic, and even for this very evening where many neighboring towns were devastated by a tornado.
We hope this marks a start for normal life to return with the blessings of the Lord. Before leaving, Santa cautioned guests and residents not to let down their guard from the pandemic, especially with the new Omicron strain. Those who are fully vaccinated and boosted need not fear Omicron, only ‘OmyGod.’
